“Building a custom home is one of those once in a lifetime experiences where you are both thrilled and frightened about what lies ahead. But from the moment I met Joe Massaro, I was quickly put at ease by his professionalism and demeanor. I was further impressed when I met project supervisor, Howard Wass, who earned instant credibility by showing me outstanding work in progress. Together Joe, Howard, and the rest of the Massaro team worked tirelessly to deliver a very high quality product that made us all proud.”
Success Stories
Classic Mediterranean
This home required extensive engineering and masonry skill. We had to hire pump trucks to pump concrete from the street to the footprint of the home, and we had to install a grade beam to support it. When that was done, we started framing. This was a complex process that included a great deal of radius work, but it was not nearly as complex as the “fenestration” or window system for the home. The clients wanted to take full advantage of the river’s view, so we installed a floor to ceiling, radius window and door assembly to provide a panoramic vista from the rear of the home. In addition to the window system, the home includes very high vaulted ceilings with a bridge or walkway across the second floor that offers a stunning view of the water.
Craftsman Contemporary
The home itself is a marvelous example of contemporary design. It is striking from the outside, and then more so from the inside. It has extensive stone work inside and out with slate flooring throughout the first floor. It includes an oversized kitchen and black window trim to accent its modern feel. The home looks out to the backyard, which includes an array of Pergola , a fountain pool, and a pool house to match the exterior of the main home. Overall, this home represents the best of contemporary appearance and has been cited for its unique design and craftsmanship.
Southern Traditional
The home sits on a steeply sloped property with an extremely high water table. Essentially, we were building on an underground lake. This can be done, but it’s not easy. We had to design and get approval for a drainage and water removal system to make sure the water table would not impinge on or jeopardize the foundation. With the collaboration of our engineers, we designed a complex manifold of piping to mitigate the impact of the high water table. We had to direct the water into the township’s main drainage system and install extra water removal and seepage prevention measures to stop the water from entering the home. We did all this to the highest professional standards and to this day, not a drop of water has entered the basement.
Stanford White
The project included new framing, a new window system, new doors, updated mechanicals (i.e., electric, plumbing, and HVAC), a new kitchen and bathrooms, and elegant and intricate finishes throughout. The job was especially challenging because the owner wanted to change the floor to ceiling height on each level. On the outside, we applied new stucco to the exterior and built an expansive front porch with an overhang along the front.
